HUMANITIES

The study of humanities is the combined study of history, literature, geography, philosophy, writing, art, government and theology. It is truly looking at the whole of culture and history in chronological order rather than fragmented pieces.

Our core teachers design their curriculum each year to integrate around the time period in history we are studying. The classical rotation can be found on the "About Us" page. You will meet monthly with the classroom teacher and given assignments that will be worked on jointly at home and school.

If you would like to check out a detailed and structured overview of this kind of learning, we recommend the Tapestry of Grace curriculum. It is similar to how our teachers approach the material and economical.

Tapestry of Grace covers the humanities: history, church history, literature, geography, fine arts, government and philosophy.

Diana Waring and Veritas Press are other resources.

MATH

Many of our families use Math-U-See and have found it accessible and effective for math education. More recommendations are available upon request.

WRITING

We have had tremendous success in using IEW for our writing curriculum. We have used it for several years now and are sold on its effectiveness in training our children to be great writers and understand the craft of writing. The teacher will select the specific IEW book each year.

LATIN

Liberty Classical Academy is dedicated to every child completing at least one year of High School Latin. "Latin is the best way to gain an academic vocabulary, to learn the formal system of grammar, and is, along with math, the best early critical thinking skills training" - Memoria Press - Latina Christiana.

SCIENCE

We live in a beautiful area that provides our children with a rich hands-on science learning experience. We highly recommend large amounts of time outside to discover our world. Nature notebooks created by the child are ideal. For more structured science, check out Apologia or Novare.

ART/MUSIC

Art is incorporated within our curriculum for a further understanding of the periods and topics they are learning in class. We encourage our families to continue using art at home while doing their home studies.

Music is a part of our curriculum at LCA with Mrs. Traver leading our younger students.
